My Indigestion Turned Out to Be a Heart Attack

A Midland mother who thought she was suffering from chronic indigestion instead discovered she had a heart condition which could have killed her. Sally Halil suffered at least two heart attacks before cardiologists diagnosed spontaneous coronary artery dissection - an illness so rare that only 100 cases have been reported worldwide.

Projects Axed to Keep Charity Afloat

A West Midlands charity for the disabled has slashed key projects and cut nearly 90 per cent of its workforce after going into administration. Disability West Midlands, which has been running for 27 years and received more than pounds 500,000 in public grants last year, said it was hopeful the cost-cutting would restore financial stability and ensure its survival.

Toddler Dies

A toddler has died after suffering massive injuries in a head-on car crash in Staffordshire. Pheobe Cawley, who was 20-months-old, lost her week-long battle for life at Birmingham Children's Hospital after being taken there after the smash, on the A53 in Leek.

Dead Man Named

Police have named a 21year-old man who died in hospital six days after being hit by a roadsweeping vehicle. Allan Dymond of Hinckley Road, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, suffered a fractured skull when he was struck down on a pedestrian crossing in the town.

Woman 'Stable

A 41-year-old woman who lost a leg when she became trapped under a steamroller remains critical but stable in hospital. Debbie Marsh had to have her left leg amputated and also suffered serious pelvic and hip injuries in the accident on Spring Lane, near Hockley Heath, West Midlands, on Monday afternoon.

Former Pc Denies Car Deception

A former policewoman who successfully appealed against a conviction for drink driving is now facing allegations that she perverted the course of justice. Hayley Slater, who was stationed in Nuneaton, is said to have falsely claimed she was not driving when her car was involved in an accident.

Team Finds Mass Graves in Bosnia

A team of archaeologists led by a Birmingham University academic have uncovered up to 700 bodies in a series of mass graves in Bosnia. The gruesome discoveries were made last week by a group of international experts using satellite imagery, geology and forensic archeology to examine four sites.

Leamington Culture Boost

Plans for a pounds 600,000 cultural quarter in a Warwickshire town have been released. In what is being described as a major boost to the creative industries, Leamington Spa will get a town centre development including a rehearsal and workshop area, a leisure facility, studios and offices.

Party in the Park May Be Put Back a Day for Live 8 Event

Plans to reschedule Birmingham's Party In The Park may be finalised today, to avoid it clashing with next month's Live 8 concert. A host of pop stars including Kelly Osbourne, McFly, Natasha Bedingfield and Rooster were due to take part in BRMB's event at Cannon Hill Park, Edgbaston, on July 2.

Dead Baby Porters Sacked

Two hospital porters have been sacked after a dead baby was left in a basement overnight instead of being taken to a mortuary. The pair, one of whom was involved in a similar incident three years ago, were suspended and an investigation launched following the revelations at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton in April.

City Arrest in Mccartney Murder Hunt

Two men were last night being questioned by police investigating the murder of Robert McCartney. Armed officers smashed down a door to seize one of the men in an early morning raid at a bedsit in Birmingham.

Godsiff Faces Vote Rig Claim Challenge

Birmingham Labour MP Roger Godsiff is facing claims that his General Election victory was marred by vote-rigging. A petition lodged at the High Court by losing Respect Party candidate Salma Yaqoob alleges that widespread fraud took place in the Sparkbrook and Small Heath constituency, where Mr Godsiff saw his 16,246 majority cut to 3,289.

Countryside Loses Out to Big Gardens

A growing desire for large gardens in the rural West Midlands is swallowing up large amounts of land and sacrificing parts of the countryside, campaigners warned today. Local authorities in parts of the region are failing to curb the large amount of land used to create few houses, with density levels falling well below Government targets, the Campaign to Protect Rural England claimed.

Recovered Goods at Auction

Stolen goods ranging from garden strimmers to BMX bikes will be among the goods being auctioned off at a public auction held by Warwickshire Police. The auctions are held twice a year around June and November in order to clear the large quantity of goods police accumulate during the course of their duties.

Midnight Fire Destroys Car Refit Warehouse

Explosions tore through a Birmingham car refit firm, destroying the vehicles inside and causing the roof to collapse yesterday. Tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to the Beetlemania business in Jameson Road, Nechells, after a fire broke out at midnight.

Disabled Patients Face Parking Bill

Disabled patients and visitors at two Midland hospitals will have to pay for car parking in future, it was revealed yesterday. The move follows complaints that they frequently find able- bodied motorists using the designated spaces at Birmingham's Heartlands Hospital and Solihull Hospital.
