Pounds 200k Stashed in Air Vent Is Claimed
Police last night said someone had come forward to claim pounds 200,000 found in an air vent of a luxury apartment in Birmingham's tallest building. A force spokeswoman conermed a potential owner had "made themselves known" to ocers, since the stash was discovered by two Polish workers at Beetham Tower, in the city centre, last month.
West Midlands Back On the Up After Record Lows
Business confidence in the West Midlands is picking up after reaching a record low, according to new data today. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales said manufacturing and engineering firms, which constitute a large part of the West Midlands economy, had seen the considerable depreciation of the pound aid their competitiveness, resulting in above-average confidence levels across the region.
Save the High Street, Is Plea From Small-Business Leaders
Birmingham has been urged to do more to help smaller retailers as an increasing number of bargain stores spring up in the city centre's High Street. The major shopping thoroughfare now boasts six "pound shops", three to let units, two stores offering loans or cheque-cashing services, one closing down sale and one betting shop.

Police have launched a murder investigation after discovering a man's body in a buried suitcase. The corpse was unearthed on Saturday near a footpath in north Bournemouth after two days of searching the site, Dorset Police said. Detectives believe the dead man to be Richard Henry Emery, an alcoholic in his 60s who disappeared from his flat in the Townsend area of Bournemouth at the end of April. Beer Barrels 'Like Missiles' in M5 Crash Which Killled Three
A mother and daughter from Birmingham were recovering in hospital last night after being injured in a crash on the M5, which claimed the lives of three people. The 11-year-old, from Edgbaston, was informed at the weekend by doctors at Birmingham Children's Hospital, where she is recovering from a broken pelvis, that her father had been one of the victims killed in the accident on both the south and northbound carriageways of the motorway, between junctions 8 and 9 on Friday, at about 7.30pm.
