Britain's only Iranian stand-up comedian, Omid Djalili first came to prominence when he won the Spirit of The Fringe at the Edinburgh Festival in 1994 with A Strange Bit of History.

Since when, funny, fresh, original and with more than hint of the Bob Hoskins about him, he's enjoyed sell out one man shows with Short Fat Kebab Shop Owner's Son, Arab & The Jew and Omid Djalili Is Ethnic, was named the LWT Best Stand-Up in 1997 and returned to Edinburgh to repeat his Spirit triumph in 1999.

Of late though, he's also been making inroads into the movie business, initially appearing in minor roles in The Mummy, The World Is Not Enough and Gladiator with such generic credits as 'foreman' and 'slave trader' and slowly progressing to films like The Calcium Kid and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow where his characters actually had names and speaking parts of more than a few lines.
