Summary
The second round of skirmishes between the English & Welsh Defence League and its opponents took place in Birmingham the weekend before last. Innocent bystanders will have noticed that the pitched battle had a different venue this time.
One reason for this was the police's adoption of new powers to outlaw demonstrations in Bullring. I assume that such powers could be taken because the shopping centre is now private land, and, as such, the usual rights to protest (enshrined in our non-existent constitution) do not apply. Having already elected to ban smokers, buskers and Big Issue sellers from Bullring, it took little effort to extend the ban to demonstrators.See the full content of this document
