Barrister Blasts 'Silly Gimmick'

A senior Birmingham barrister and head of the Criminal Cases Review Commission has labelled Government plans to set up a fund for victims of crime as a 'silly gimmick'.

Prof Graham Zellick said the Home Office's proposed Victims' Fund, which would force convicted criminals to pay cash penalties into a kitty for victims, was unnecessary. Speaking to law students at Birmingham University, he argued that victims should be supported through general taxation.
