A new charity set up to raise pounds 10 million to improve facilities for injured troops was inspired by the work done by military and civilian medics at a Birmingham hospital, it was revealed yesterday.
Cartoonist Bryn Parry, who served for 10 years in the Royal Green Jackets, set up Help For Heroes after visiting soldiers and staff at Selly Oak Hospital, where the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine is based. Many patients on the military-managed ward have been airlifted in from war zones, mainly Iraq and Afghanistan, and Selly Oak is where they are first treated.See the full content of this document
