It's not been the greatest of Christmases for Hazel Blears, the normally sure-footed Labour Party chairman.
Having left herself open to allegations of hypocrisy, by campaigning to save NHS services in her constituency while at the same time promoting the very Government policy responsible for forcing the closure of hospital A&E departments, Ms Blears courted controversy again over the weekend by wondering whether Britons simply enjoy getting drunk too much to adopt a continental-style drinking culture.
