It was more than symbolic that yesterday's summit to plan the future growth of Birmingham was held in the International Convention Centre.

The ICC, Symphony Hall, the National Indoor Arena and Brindleyplace are, of course, highly visible reminders of Birmingham's economic renaissance in the 1990s. These buildings, truly world class, stand testament to a period in time when public and private sectors in Birmingham set aside any differences to work together in common cause.
