The in-box awaiting Gordon Brown when he becomes Prime Minister next month will be groaning under the weight of weeks of Government torpor. There has been little in the way of public policy development or important decisions during the Tony Blair's interminable hand over of power, so it is reasonable to predict an avalanche of pronouncements when the new regime finally gets its hands on the levers of power.
It will be in Mr Brown's own interests to hit the ground running, setting out his stall as leader with determination and fresh ideas aplenty. And if the direction of travel is somewhat different to that of his predecessor at Number Ten, Mr Brown's stock with voters may improve along with Labour's future prospects.See the full content of this document
