Byers 'Did Not Lie' About Railtrack

Summary


Former Cabinet Minister Stephen Byers yesterday offered a personal apology in the Commons for giving "factually inaccurate" evidence to Parliament, but insisted "I did not lie".

The ex-Transport Secretary may now find himself the subject of a parliamentary investigation after Conservatives indicated they were not satisfied with his apology and would ask Speaker Michael Martin to refer him to the Commons Standards and Privileges Committee.
