Even careful savers are feeling the pinch: Abbey says that 26 per cent of its customers who bought ISAs in the 2006/7 tax year have had to withdraw pounds 579 each, therefore losing the tax shelter on the amount withdrawn which protects any income and capital gain on the investment.
