Summary


The chances of The Cure coming up with a decent album this late in their career had previously been considered slim. Frontman Robert Smith is 45 now and previous albums Wish and Bloodflowers had been pretty ropey, to put it kindly.

The king of bluster and pastiche had seemed to run out of ideas ten years ago, a point that was made by the release of a four-CD compilation of b-sides recently. Even these throwaway items were better than the last few duff albums, we cackled. Anyway, Bob's back with longtime mucker Simon Gallup and Perry Bamonte and he's gone and made his best effort since Disintegration at the end of the 1980s.
