Raphael Wallfisch, a few years Jacqueline du Pre's junior, is the brains behind a two-day celebration of the tragically short life of this great cellist, who would have been 60 on Wednesday, writes Christopher Morley.

The day after a marathon evening at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall he comes to Symphony Hall for a concert with William Boughton's English Symphony Orchestra, when he plays both the great Elgar Concerto as well as the Beethoven Triple. Two concertos in the same programme might be seen by some as gruelling.
