As if one Cowell wasn't enough. First there was Simon, the sharp- tongued music impresario who shattered people's dreams of singing stardom in a second with his off-the-cuff remarks on Pop Idol. Now his younger brother Nicholas is also making his mark on the small screen, lending his own expertise, which lies in property investment rather than music, to a brand new reality show called The Block. The new series sees four unsuspecting couples move in to newly built houses and given the task of renovating them in 12 weeks. Nicholas's role is to cast his experienced eye over the efforts of the couples once they've finished each room.

The winner of each 'room reveal', chosen by Nicholas, then gets extra money to help on them their way to making their house an attractive proposition for potential buyers, ready for a live auction in September.
