All aspects of policing from detective work to neighbourhood patrols could face cuts over the next four years, one chief constable has warned.

Tim Brain, who will stand down as the head of Gloucestershire Police in January, said question marks loomed over large parts of policing because Government spending plans were not clear. He said policing faced a very uncertain future.
