Activity in Britain's construction industry, which has now enjoyed nearly five-and-a-half years of unbroken expansion, quickened again in April at its fastest pace for 41 months.

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply reported that its headline purchasing managers' index for construction rose to 59.8 in last month from 58.9 in on a scale where any reading above 50 indicates expansion.
