When Frank Kelly was 12 he made a window frame to replace a broken one at his family home in Sparkhill. Thirty-one years later it is still one of the most satisfying things he has ever done, despite building up a successful business that stands on the verge of a multimillion pound turnover.
"From as early as I can remember I wanted to be a carpenter. I was never so proud to make that window and put the glass in it," he says.
