Crh to Build On Profits

Summary

Building materials group CRH yesterday said it expects pretax profit for last year to be 23 per cent ahead of 2005.

The firm, which is due to publish full-year results on March 6, said it also hopes to see further progress this year after spending 2.1 billion euros (pounds 1.41 billion) on acquisitions in 2006. In a trading statement CRH said that profit before tax in 2006 had likely risen by about 300 million euros (pounds 202 million) - 60 million euros (pounds 40.4 million) more than analysts' consensus forecast. Analysts had expected the Irish company - one of the world's biggest suppliers to builders and owner of the UK's largest brick maker Ibstock - to post a pretax profit of 1.52 billion euros (pounds 1.02 billion) versus 1.28 billion (pounds 862 million) in 2005.
