Surrey's Jonathan Batty stonewalled Durham's depleted attack to restrict the hosts to a draw at Riverside and stall their momentum in pursuit of a maiden Championship title.
In an LV Division One match which concluded yesterday after being brought forward because of Durham's interest in tomorrow's FP Trophy final, Surrey opener Batty ate up 235 balls on his way to an unbeaten 102 which contained 11 fours and a six. Bereft of the injured Steve Harmison, the Durham attack were found wanting as the southern strugglers closed on 198 for three - set 447 to win, after their hosts had batted on to declare on 397 for seven. A maximum- points win would have taken Durham top of the table but instead they must settle for third place, within striking distance of Yorkshire and leaders Sussex.See the full content of this document
