Culture Vulture: What the Dickens Is Dr Chinn Up To?

Summary


It's generally acknowledged these days that Christmas as we know it was invented by Charles Dickens. As part of the creation of the festival (largely achieved by his book A Christmas Carol) the writer gave a reading from said novel at Birmingham Town Hall in December 1851.

Now the event is to be celebrated with a similar reading. It's happening on Thursday at the Edwardian Tea Rooms at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
