'Death' Hold Used Routinely

Summary


A restraint hold blamed for the death of a teenager in a secure training centre was the "default" method of dealing with violent or unruly children, an inquest heard yesterday.

Gareth Myatt, aged 15, was the first child to die in a privately run secure unit when he choked to death while being restrained by three adult officers at the Rainsbrook training centre in April 2004.
