The politician responsible for axing Birmingham's traditional New Year's Eve party is facing an inquiry into his decision.
A city council scrutiny committee will today probe the action of cabinet leisure member John Alden, who ruled that the Millennium Point spectacular with live bands did not justify itspounds 170,000 price tag. Coun Alden (Con Harborne) intends to use the money saved by scrapping the annual party to stage a fireworks display in the city centre and a larger Christmas entertainment instead.See the full content of this document
