In Bordeaux, wine is a serious business. It is estimated that the industry employs some 60,000 individuals, with around 12,000 growers farming over 120,000 hectares of Appellation Controlee (AOC) vines.

There is more land under vine than the whole of Australia, and it is estimated that the region produces somewhere between 900 to 1,000 million bottles a year.
