It was lights, campus, action for the BBC's new drama village last night as the Birmingham University-based facility was officially opened by the corporation's creative director Alan Yentob.

Following the closure of Pebble Mill, the television drama village, at Selly Oak, is the new home to the daytime soap Doctors, Dalziel & Pascoe, The Afternoon Play and the new drama shorts series Brief Encounters.
