Driving Down Costs Through Alternative Fuel Use

F uels costs have proved to be unpredictable at best, and on the rise at worst. However, as most of us are fully reliant on oil, from powering our cars through to heating our homes, we seem to have little choice but to meet these extra charges. Or do we? Our drive towards a green world is making alternatives much more accessible to the masses. As was seen at last week's European Bioenergy Expo (EBEC) held in Warwickshire, biomass boilers, brewing your own biodiesel and race cars running on chocolate are already part of every day life for some.

"Using alternative fuels can save people around pounds 2500 a year," said Richard Price, organiser of EBEC. "The Government allows people to 'brew' around 2,500 litres of biodiesel at home each year tax free. At just 20p a litre, it's a massive saving when set against current fuel costs of more than pounds 1 a litre."
