Summary


What a refreshingly guileless piece Mendelssohn's Octet is; its' emotion is as honest as any teenager's, yet with an assurance and sense of purpose that most 16-year olds (the age when Mendelssohn wrote it) would die for.

It's also an ebullient and unusually passionate work from one so young, qualities admirably conveyed in Monday's performance, notably in the soaring lyricismof the opening Allegro and the fly-away Presto.
