Emergency Services Could Be Hit by Strike

Australian bank Macquarie provoked union outrage yesterday after closing the final salary pension scheme of the firm which provides radio communication systems to UK emergency services including West Midlands Police, Ambulance and Fire services.

Macquarie closed the scheme just an hour after agreeing a pounds 1.9 billion deal for the O2 Airwave business with previous owners, Spanish telecoms group Telefonica.
