The numbers have swollen even further since the Swedish EST's 2002 Birmingham appearance at the CBSO Centre. This time, even the cavernous WAC Butterworth Hall seemed pretty full. It's partly down to a media coup, but mostly sheer street-level word-of-mouth. This is a jazz band that rocks, that funks, that gently daubs classically attuned, painterly textures.
Pianist Svensson (close-cropped), bassist Dan Berglund (completelyshiny) and drummer Magnus Ostrom (comparatively longhaired) have a stern set, but their electro-acoustic music is always organic and warm. Tender, but with an occasionally roused violence.See the full content of this document
