Following the landmark conviction of a London man accused of hijacking a wireless broadband connection, Birmingham law firm Bevan Brittan is warning employers to review their IT usage policies concerning laptop computers.
Gregory Straszkiewicz was arrested under the Computer Misuse Act 2003 for seeking out unprotected connections and using the latest wi- fi technology to gain freeinternet access on his laptop. There are now thought to be nearly one million wi-fi users in the UK and, for many companies, laptop computers form an integral part of daily operations.
