Firms that cash in on Birmingham's reputation for shopping and business excellence but fail to contribute financially in promoting the city risk being 'named and shamed'. Mark Ansell, chief executive of Marketing Birmingham, criticised companies for dragging their heels and urged them to mend their ways. Mr Ansell, celebrating a year of Marketing Birmingham's champions scheme -where businesses pay up to pounds 15,000 to act as official ambassadors for the city - said private enterprise could only benefit from the huge pull of initiatives such as the Bullring shopping centre, which attracted 21 million visitors in its first six months.
