Debt levels are continuing to spiral, with one in five people now owing unsecured debts of more than pounds 10,000, according to a survey.

The survey from debt consultancy Thomas Charles showed the number of adults in the UK with debts of pounds 10,000 rose by almost a quarter of a million to 8.4 million in the six months to end of October.
