Foe Warns Over New Label Rules

Summary


Companies flouting tough new legislation requiring them to label products containing genetically modified ingredients are unlikely to be caught because local authorities do not have enough money to carry out sufficient monitoring, campaigners claimed yesterday.

According to Friends of the Earth, the Government has allocated just pounds 400,000 to enforce the new law and Trading Standards officers fear cash-strapped councils will not carry out sufficient monitoring because of other priorities.
