Martin O'Neill emerged for his post-match press conference with the look of duty engraved over his face. "Obviously, I am disappointed," he whispered after his Aston Villa team conceded a goal in stoppage time to bow out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 defeat away to Manchester United yesterday.

With Henrik Larsson scoring on his debut for United, Gabor Kiraly somehow diverted attention away from the striker with an error that allowed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to score the winning goal. Kiraly, the Villa goalkeeper on loan from Crystal Palace, was said by O'Neill to be "distraught".
