Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has never confessed to being superstitious but he may now have discovered an aversion to the number 13 after his side suffered their first Premier League defeat in 13 matches.

The 2-0 slump at the hands of Harry Redknapp's vibrant Portsmouth side capped a week which also saw a disappointing 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough and the Villa boss conceded it was a few days he would rather forget as the results put a serious dent in his side's pursuit of automatic qualification for Europe this season.
