Fuel Costs Soar, but Air France Flies High

Air France-KLM yesterday said net profit climbed to pounds 621 million in its full year to March, a 29.3 per cent rise seen even as the airline's jet fuel costs jumped by 32 per cent over the period.

Operating profits for the airline, which operates a number of services out of Bir-mngham, soared by 69.3 per cent to pounds 636.7 million, on sales that were up just 10.2 per cent to pounds 14.5 billion, as the company benefited from efforts to cut costs as part of the merger of Air France with KLM two years ago, which created the world's largest carrier by revenues.
