The restaurant group behind Gourmet Burger Kitchen yesterday said half-year underlying profits rose by 26 per cent after promotions helped offset the impact of the wet summer and tougher trading climate.

Clapham House chief executive Paul Campbell said the group's brands, which also include Tootsies and The Real Greek, were "robust" amid the downturn.
