Plans for eight new GP surgeries in Worcestershire were doomed to failure because health chiefs submitted weak bids, Ministers claimed yesterday.

Health Minister Stephen Ladyman told the Commons funding proposals submitted by South Worcestershire Primary Care Trust had not been 'robust'. But he was condemned by West Worcestershire MP Sir Michael Spicer, who accused him of taking a 'not me guv' approach.
