Cabinet minister Philip Hammond said the economy is in the right shape to create the jobs to balance out the 490,000 public sector positions expected to be axed in the cuts.
Some economists have predicted the economy is headed back for recession as a result of the harshness of the cuts but Mr Hammond, the Secretary of State for Transport, said he was confident that private sector growth would mitigate the reduction in public sector employment.See the full content of this document
