Dear Editor, So Nick Lovett (pen portrait, August 4) is "not sure libraries have a place in the new digital age".

What would he do with the books - burn them? That's what the citizens of Alexandria did 2,000 years ago, ensuring a loss of knowledge that has never been rediscovered. Oh yes, Birmingham would certainly establish its "Global" credentials.
