Heroic Cockleshell Raid Recreated

Summary


The heroic exploits of the "Cockleshell Heroes" during the Second World War are to be re-enacted on the 65th anniversary of the famous commando raids by two of their modern-day counterparts.

In December 1942, 10 Royal Marine commandos in five canoes, or "cockleshells", were launched from a British submarine off the Gironde Estuary, France, to destroy enemy shipping in Bordeaux harbour.
