High Street Sales Up As Food Retail Performs

High street sales picked up in September, driven by a strong performance in food retail and discounting and promotions in furniture and DIY.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) said like-for-like sales were up 2.4 per cent last month but warned the comparison with September 2005 was a weak one as sales declined then by 0.8 per cent in the wake of the July bombings in London.
