Controversial historian David Irving could have faced up to ten years in prison for denying the Holocaust under Austrian legislation which is said to be the harshest in the world in dealing with such an offence.

Prosecutors filed charges against him under the 1947 law banning Nazi revivalism, and criminalising the "public denial, belittling, or justification of National Socialist crimes".
