West Midland-based giant IMI yesterday remained bullish in the face of the worsening economic downturn - but admitted that it had cut ten per cent of its workforce over the winter.

The global engineering group said it had enjoyed "another period of solid organic growth" to unveil a three per cent rise in pre-tax profits for 2008 to pounds 176million, up frompounds 171million.
