A Midland scientist has joined the row over 'Frankenstein' hybrid embryos by claiming it is "immoral" not to attempt to create new drugs or therapies for degenerative conditions like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.

Professor Justin St John, an expert in reproductive biology at Warwick University, is aiming to take the work by Newcastle University - where the first part-animal, part human embryos in Britain have been created - a step further, as MPs prepare to debate such studies.
