German workers should get significant wage increases in 2008 and have earned their share of the rewards after exercising restraintin recent years, Vice Chancell or Frank - Walter Steinmeier said yesterday.

In an interview with Bild am Sonntag newspaper, the Social Democrat (right) said Germany was in the midst of a prolonged period of economic growth and workers deserved a larger share of the pie. "It's my conviction that workers deserve substantial wage increases in 2008 and a fair share of the rewards for the upturn," Steinmeier said.
