If it was not for the Second World War, Coventry airport would be a thriving centre for commercial flights already, according to a historian on the subject.

Barry James, chairman and archivist of the Midlands Air Museum which is on the airfield, said the war changed the airport's destiny into a base for military aircraft manufacture and flying clubs instead.
