January Bargains Were 'Aggressively Priced'

Shop prices fell by a seasonally adjusted 0.27 per cent between December and January even though the price of many food items went up as pre-Christmas discounts ended.

Some of the bargains in the January sales were more aggressively priced than last year - many retailers were offering cuts of up to 80 per cent, especially on clothing, the British Retail Consortium said.
