The Midlands' greatest jazz export, Dave Holland, flew in to be artist-in-residence for a few days and to join Conservatoire head of jazz studies Jeremy Price and Birmingham Jazz artistic director Tony Dudley Evans on the judging panel.
Fifteen bands of current or past Conservatoire students had entered, and the shortlist of three each played a 40-minute set before the judges made their decision. The judges had drawn the short straw.See the full content of this document
