Communities in Birmingham which are aiming to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of Second World War will be dancing in the streets after the city council said it would not charge for road closures.

Scores of street parties are expected during the weekends of May 7 and 8, July 9 and 10 and August 13 to 15 to mark the anniversaries of VE Day (May 10), VJ Day (August 15), and the national day of commemoration (July 10Coun Len Gregory (Con Bournville), Cabinet member for transportation, said: 'Sixty years ago street parties broke out as people celebrated the end of the war.
