Dear Editor, West Midlands Minister Liam Byrne is to be congratulated on his initiative in creating a strategic leadership group to drive forward change in the region. But where is the environment in all this? (Minister to create his Midlands A Team, Post Oct 1).
Outside those from the Government Office and Regional Assembly, the membership of his new team is drawn from employment, economy, skills and health. Yet the West Midlands suffers from one of the most degraded natural environments in the UK and there is no prospect of areas like the Black Country, Stoke and parts of Birmingham reviving until radical investment is made in the quality of the environment.See the full content of this document
